Resident Support Coach

Starting Pay: $38-45,000 with benefits, depending on skills and experience.

Position Summary

The Resident Support Coach (RSC) is a key member of the tenant services team at Voice of the People in Uptown, a non-profit affordable housing organization, which has been empowering residents with engagement in community development and collaborative services for more than five decades.  Under supervision of the Resident Opportunity Services (ROS) program manager, the Resident Support Coach conducts outreach, provides counseling, enables community-building activities, and performs various duties in support of tenants in Voice-sponsored affordable housing developments in the Uptown Community. S/he will take a lead role in linking low-income residents and their families to services and opportunities that address social, health, economic, cultural, and recreational needs and interests. The position is full time with a schedule that is flexible to meet residents’ needs.  Candidates with closely related experience may be eligible for Resident Service Coordinator position with greater responsibilities in counseling, resident training/event organizing and program administration in support of Resident Services Manager. Starting pay up to $52,000, depending on skills and experience.

Duties and Responsibilities

The RSC welcomes new tenants with educational and counseling support before and after move-ins, and does the same for residents relocating or transferring because of emergencies, rehab, right sizing apartments and more. The RSC maintains regular communication with participants in voluntary social service programming – by phone, virtual meetings, home or office visits. The RSC provides ongoing case management, service referrals and tracking of progress – utilizing needs assessment, employing Family Centered Coaching model and logging goals, referrals and progress in service software consistent with security and procedural protocols. As part of the program team, the RSC helps organize social events for seniors, youth and families. S/he provides crisis intervention and emergency response assistance with Voice tenants as needed, and acts as liaison to agencies, institutions, medical providers, property management and other community groups. 

Qualifications and Requirements

Master’s Degree in Social Work +2 years work experience in social services, and/or equivalent of undergraduate degree +5 years related experience. Case management experience is essential, with proven ability to work with diverse populations. Direct experience in senior programs or affordable housing tenant services is preferred. Strong teamwork and communications skills; proficiency in office, internet and network programs — all required. Fluency in a second language is a plus.  Most work will happen from office or affordable housing building locations nearby. Access to a car is preferred.  Based on qualifications, candidates may be eligible for Resident Services Coordinator position.
